Claudia and Jamie, who were brother and sister, had decided to run away to the NYC Metropolitan Museum. They rode a train to New York. They slept in a bed at the museum. They learned about Angel, a statue. They decided to go to Mrs. Frankweiler's home. She had owned the statue. The children thought that she knew who created Angel and they were right. After that she sent them home to be reunited with their family and the evidence of who created Angel with them.
