Lines I Kept...

No one has ever told me that it’s normal for a person’s eyes to well up as they age, for the tears to find a foothold in virtually every memory.

"Dad was really worried when he called. I could hear it in his voice." 

"Hans? Worried? I doubt that," I snort. 

"Of course he is. He just has trouble showing it." 

How hard can it be just to tell the truth, I wonder...

I feel a sudden fondness for the old man in the mirror. It’s not bloody easy, being human.
