A remarkable book. As a work of fiction, with dubious authorship. A window into the world of the disabled clients and their care-givers at an adult day care center called Upward Bound. It gives voice to the inner world of the non-speaking, and of those looking upon them from the outside.

I found it extremely compelling and honestly didn't realize anything about the controversy surrounding the book until I went to Goodreads and checked out some of the reviews. It also didn't strike me as a gross misrepresentation of those in the disabled community, because it is categorized as a work of fiction... which means it's someone's ideas, and not necessarily based in actual reality. Maybe that's me being insensitive because I don't have anyone close to me in that community. But I truly did not sense any disrespect. Regardless of true authorship, I thought it was pretty brilliant and I don't think I need to dock stars because there are questions surrounding it. | 5 stars
