The Disciplines of Devotion series from The Gospel Coalition is intentionally short, designed to be read in one sitting. This particular volume on Bible Study is written by one of my favorites, Glenna Marshall. I appreciate and value her commitment to Bible study in her own life, and went into this trusting that I would glean meaningful information. Despite its brevity, it did not disappoint. The book is broken up into 5 sections, covering what is Bible study, the blessings of Bible study, a plan for study, the foundation of study, and a method for study. Each are helpful. The only thing I could've wished for, which might have made the book too long for TGC's purposes, was for a model of study. It would have been helpful to see Glenna use the method she describes on a short passage, like maybe James 1:1-18, since she suggests using James as an easier book to begin with due to its length. Nonetheless, I found this to be an encouraging and informative read. 4½ stars.
