The Ten Thousand Doors of January, by Alix E. Harrow

My May book club read is another that isn't usually in my genre. That being the case, I thought this one was okay. There's something about bending reality that just isn't my preference when it comes to reading. I did enjoy the writing and I liked January's character.
It smelled like adventure itself had been harvested in the wild, distilled to a fine wine, and splashed across each page.
The story is about a young girl who grows to learn that she can manipulate doors to transfer people and things between alternate realities (universes?). Meanwhile, there is a sinister group of individuals who seek to close these kinds of doors permanently. As such, there's a bit of back and forth between the worlds, though the author weaves it in through a book January is given. Overall, if you like fantasy, I think you'd probably enjoy this. For me, it just wasn't my style.
There are times when thank you is so inadequate, so dwarfed by the magnitude of the debt, that the words wilt in your throat.
